Southcity Christian College has a vast array of cultural activities to cater for all learners in our school community.
We participate in various public speaking competitions including the Rotary Team Speaking Competition and the KZN Schools Debating League. Our learners have showed their mettle in this arena, with Southcity bringing the Rotary Team Speaking cup home 7 times. Our debating teams are regularly placed at the top of the South Coast Schools Debating League, where we compete against various local schools. Our debaters always stand out at Interleague events, and we have also had many of our learners selected to represent the South Coast at the KZN Schools Provincial Debating Competition held annually.
Public Speaking is not the only area in which we offer opportunities. Art Club takes place twice a week. This caters not only for learners who take Visual Art as an elective subject, but also for those who wish to develop their creative abilities. For the tacticians, Chess club also takes place twice a week and allows learners the chance to hone their skills.
Also on offer after school, is the Google Group which takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The Google Group makes the computer room available to all learners who may need to do research or do projects.
There are several opportunities available to budding actors and actresses to showcase their talents. Every year Southcity puts on a Drama production which attracts a great deal of support from learners, parents, and the community. Also, every year we hold our Inter-House Plays. Grade 11 learners are elected and given the chance to show their leadership skills by organising and producing a play for their house. These plays are then put on for the school, and a panel of judges. Not only are house points on the line, but also the pride of the house! View gallery.
Last but by no means least, is the Matric Farewell. This is a major event on the school calendar and is eagerly anticipated every year. Of course, this event could never take place without the Matric Farewell Committee. This group of hard working Grade 11 learners work all year hosting events and raising funds in order to put on the most memorable Farewell possible. Not only that, but they also get the chance to show off their creativity and leadership skills.
The cultural activities at Southcity Christian College certainly do fulfil the aims put forward in our Mission Statement!
